Understanding AI Confidence Levels
Confidence describes how comparable your photos were — not how well your journey is going.
When Journae produces an observation about two photos, it also produces a confidence level. That level is a statement about the inputs: how comparable the photos were in lighting, angle, distance and clarity, and how clear the visible difference was.
A low confidence reading is not bad news about your progress. It usually means the two photos were taken in conditions different enough that any comparison would be unreliable. The fix is to improve consistency, not to hunt for a more encouraging reading.
Equally, a high confidence reading is a statement about visibility in images, not about causes. Journae can say that an area looks different between two dates. It cannot say why, and it will not attempt to.
What each level means
- High — comparable photos and a clear visible difference.
- Medium — broadly comparable, with some variation in light, angle or clarity.
- Low — the inputs varied too much to support a dependable observation.
