Skin From the Inside and Out: Keeping It Simple
General wellbeing habits alongside a sensible, short skincare routine — and why lighting changes what you see.
Skincare gets complicated quickly, and complication is the main reason routines get abandoned. A short routine you actually follow will nearly always serve you better than a ten-step one you manage for a fortnight.
Alongside that, general wellbeing habits are worth their place: drinking enough water, sleeping as well as your life allows, and sun protection. None of these are cures for anything, and it is worth being clear about that.
No food clears skin. Acne, eczema, psoriasis and rosacea are medical conditions, and they are treated with medical advice, not with a diet plan from the internet. If something is painful, spreading or affecting your life, that is a GP or dermatologist conversation.
One more practical note: most dramatic before-and-afters you see online are lighting. Side light exaggerates texture, flat front light hides it. That is exactly why a consistent photo setup tells you more than a mirror ever will.
A routine worth keeping
- Cleanse, moisturise, and sunscreen in the daytime — that is a complete routine.
- Introduce one new product at a time and give it several weeks.
- Photograph in the same light, same distance, same time of day.
- Write down what you changed and when, so you can connect cause and effect later.
- Ask a professional about anything painful, persistent or spreading.
